Just send program change commands thru cakewalk. What I do is set MIDI PROGRAM SELECT (Global settings) in the qs to, say Channel 3, and then send a program change command in that channel.. if you try to send the program change in any other midi channels, cakewalk will change the individual program in the mix.
This ensures that you actually change mixes. The qs has to be in mix mode, of course.
btw I have a qs6, but I'm assuming it's the same thing.
