If the cable connects to a midi port via a 5 pin DIN connector, there shouldn't be a problem. All musical instruments that are "midi-able" (ones I am aware of) have photocoupling already implemented via the synthesizer or keyboards midi port.

I assume this cable connects between the sound card joystick/game port and has a 5 pin DIN connector on one end that plugs into the midi connector on your synth or keyboard? If this is the case, there is no problem with this type of connection.

Any other direct connection between your keyboard and computer you probably should avoid. An exception to this would be the serial connection also implemented on the Alesis QS synths and a computers serial communications (com) port. Alesis also makes this cable if you don't want to build it yourself.

: HI!

: I found a website that sells a direct cable connection from synth (piano) to PC sound-card.

: In other sites, everyone says that it's better to use a photocoupler and not connecting directly.

: What's right?

: If photocoupler, can i use 4N26 chip to build it? Can you help me with a schematic?

: Thenx
