If you own or have access to a Macintosh which has QuickTime Pro installed, it will play the midi file through the Mac's internal synth, a Roland GS series standard general midi instrumentation.
Using the "Save As..." command, you can save an audio file of several formats (AIFF for sure, and I believe .wav files as well).
