David's response makes the most sense having experienced similar problems like this but with other (older) midi equipment.

1. How old is your QSR? If it is 3-5+ years old, there may be an internal battery getting weak causing the random pitch shifting.

2. There are some of those cheap quality midi cables that provide very little or no shielding from RF, EMI noise etc. A low quality midi cable could cause this.

However if this is just a recent problem you started to experience with your unit, you can reasonably suspect issue #1. I don't believe the battery is user serviceable. See your Alesis dealer/service center.

: : Help my QSR's gone mad. Not so long ago it occasionally started behaving irrationally, i.e. pitch and tuning going berserk but then worked fine again. Now all of a sudden does not play in tune anymore and it sounds like there is pitch randomizer at work inside. I've tried re-initialise the unit to no avail. Is there anybody who had a similar experience and can give some advise?
: : Recently I had some problems with midi ports and Cubase. can they be related?

: Could be noise on the midi in, I have seen my QS8 do random patch changes in a
: noisy environment. Try disconnecting the midi cables and see if the problem goes away
: (you probavbly want to do this after sending a note on)
