SB Live cards require microphones to be preamped. Also, go into multimedia and disable 5v bias voltage and also disable 30db boost. Thats where the noise is comming from. You will be shocked at how good the sound quality is. I'm using an AKG C1000s mic with a single chip DIY preamp and recording to Cubase.
: I find the a/d converters in the whole s/b line a bit noisy, but some people seem to be OK with it. To go up from the soundblaster you'll have to spend significantly more on an audio interface, so if it works for you, go ahead.
: It should record a mic no problem.
- I've never used a preamp, and I've recorded a lot of mic stuff through the mic port, are you sure yours is working correctly? Eric (Shattre) 2/21/2001
- It's not the A/D converter, it's because your signal is too small. Jon 2/25/2001
