Hi Andrew! Let me try to help you there!

: 1. What settings should I use: NORMAL / OUT 1-16 / CH SOLO? (i have 1 keyboard only)

For the kind of setup you mentioned, use OUT1-16. If you pick, say, OUT 16, midi channel 16 won't be enabled, meaning you'll have 15 available then. There's no working around about this, and that's the only way to go.

: 2. Do i use USER 00-0 in Mix Mode as the setting for recording on these MIDI channels or am I misunderstanding that?

No. You can use any MIX you want. Might be 00, 35, 78... anything goes, because on each MIX, there will always be 16 midi channels (or 15, as I mentioned before), and even if they're turned off, you can always put them ON.

: 3. I noticed that when I change programs (patches) and change the bank in Cakewalk I recieve the program changes but not the bank. Is there any way for the computer to automatically change the banks so that i don't have to do it manually on the keyboard?

Yup! Check in the QS's manual (index - bank change)what kind of bank change standard you should use, and then use that option in Cakewalk. It should work fine, but I don't remember the exact bank change standard at the moment.

: 4. What about channels? Do I have to manually change them on the keyboard as well, or is there a MIDI setting that fixes this?

Didn't get that. When you have the 16 channels enabled on a mix (you have to enable them!), as you scroll through you cakewalk tracks (with different midi channels for each) you should be able to control each of the instrument assigned for each track. But this is not a bug!

: My goal is to do everything from the the SONAR sequencer without having to touch the keyboard except to "play" on it.

Impossible, unless you go into deep sysex knowledge, and that would take you huge amount of time. Tip: use a editor for such, it's the best, Andrew. There are commands which are used by the QS that SONAR doesn't has it internally implemented, say... switching effects, controlling filters, etc. A good thing as well is to get the StudioWare panels for SONAR and control the QS with it.

Shall you need more advice just use my email!
