MIDI question controlling QS7 Mix from Triton Combi

Hi, I'm trying to do a favor for a friend. We have a Triton and an Alesis QS7. We use the Triton mainly, but send MIDI to the QS7. We want to be able to play mix user sounds on the QS7 but as near as I can tell the QS7 only plays one layer of the mix sound for each MIDI channel it receives.

From reading the manuals I think that it is possible to either:
- set a combi on the Triton to send MIDI on a separate channel for each of the 8 layers. This would have to be done with every Combi we want to use regularly.
- set the different voices in the QS7 mix user patch to all respond to one MIDI channel. I haven't spent the time to figure out how to do this from the front panel yet. Again this would have to be done for every patch we want to use.

First, I want to make sure I've got the above information correct before I spend the time to learn how to do the work, and then reconfigure all of the patches we need.

Second, I'd really like to think there's an easier way to either get the Triton to send on multiple MIDI channels without editing each Combi, or else get the QS7 to play an entire Mix patch from one MIDI IN channel, again without editing each patch individually.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but neither of us are real synth experts,
so I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Christopher
