Actually, from how you describe this delema, it sounds as if you are not getting a complete send from the SysEx utility to the synth. I have had a similar problem myself.
Try copying one of the on board banks, say, BANK ONE, to the USER bank. See if it will do that. If it does, if it loads properly, then you can look to your SysEx utility for the problem.
I would try that first.
If BANK ONE won't load to the USER bank, then you can consider a call to Alesis, as you then have a technical problem.
