Well, I haven't used my QS8 with a computer for a few years - I need basic information so please excuse my ignorance and 100 year long message! My hardware/software
1. Windows XP
2. A serial cable the Roland 3.2 serial driver.
3. I also have a USB midisport 1x1 with accomp drivers.
4. I only have the sequencing software version of Cubasis that came with the synth. (working to figure out which flavor to buy, but that's a whole other subject)
I have been able to receive a signal to the sequencer software from the serial connection in an older computer w/the original alesis driver. I have not been able to accomplish this with either the serial or midi stuff I have now. Suspect I just don't have everything set correctly or maybe the Roland driver doesn't work. I think I would prefer the serial connection. Questions:
1. Can you tell me the correct settings on my synth and MME setup for cubasis to make it work for both types of connections? I've been following instructions but would like to double-check.
2. For Serial connection what settings on my computer could be causing the problem? I suspect this is where my snag lies because I'm a little confused over the README instructions.
3. Can I use my computer like an amp to play out of my speakers with the QS8 (not just using the QS8 as controller for midi noise on the sound card)? If so, it was not obvious to me how to set it up. Headphones hurt after an hour and that is my only other option in this room.
I know these are probably really basic questions, but I would so much appeciate any advice here. Can't really afford to buy anything else right now so I hope I can use what I have to play and write on my computer.
