: Rod,
: What is your take on the Vintage Synthesizer card? I'm interested in picking one up but would like a 2nd opinion.

Well, it really depends whether you're looking for a source of cool sounds or you're really looking for 'vintage synth sounds'.

I say this since this is probably the major (and only) source of dissapointment of people on this card. People have their own definition of what their favorite vintage synths are, and obviously this card doesnt cover it all, and the alesis synth engine, let's face it, is limited to do certain things like oscillator synch, pulse width mod, etc.

HOWEVER

The card is a VERY cool source of sounds. Pretty well rounded, you get pads, a few percussive type sounds (synth bass type), some leads, filter sweeps.

Since the filter in the QS is non-resonant, some of the filter sweeps are built into the samples, so you have limited 'editability' but, oh well.

I think a lot of the sounds are musical and I've been able to integrate them. They are not as full as some of the sounds in my cs6x (which is the ROMpler who gets closest to a VA, IMHO), but they tend to sit better in a mix since they are not as full.

Probably 80-90% of the sounds I still use in the Qs are from this card. My user bank is filled mostly with sounds using samples from this card.

The other card permanently on my qsr is the vintage keys - the eurodance gets placed there once in a blue moon.
