I'm just guessing, but the ribbon orientation is probably why the keyboard isn't playing. Without the right orientation, the ribbons are as good as cut. You'll have to experiment with them in all positions until you find the one that works. Luckily, there are only 4 possible combinations if there are only 2 ribbons:
Left, Left
Left, Right
Right, Left
Right, Right
