Okay, I got the answer to my own question!!
I called Alesis, and they said that the QS8 (and 7?) have all the latest, greatest grand piano samples; no need for any QCards for piano. It's the QS6 that doesn't have these, and that's what's on the QCard.
So he thought the piano sound in the QS8 was great, and there are no plans for upgrades anytime soon.
