The QS will respond to a controller 10 (pan) event if sent. Even if the
controller event is 64, which would be a center pan, the message is going
to cause the QS to go from PROG, which is individual panning four all four
sound layers, to a mono pan at the center position for everything. To avoid
this problem, you need to set the sequencer so it does not send a
controller 10 message at the top of a sequence. The QS is simply responding
to the message it is being sent. You need to either turn controllers off or
remove that particular controller message. Other keyboards will not respond
to the message in the same manner because they do not have the same
architecture. If it weren't for the PROG panning option, which is not
standard midi, then the QS could only have one mono pan option for all four
voices, period
