: I just bought a QS8 and and attempting to get it to communicate with Cakewalk 6.0.

: I'm using the soundcard that came standard with the Compaq laptop. I downloaded the serial driver from alesis.

: Problem being: When I play the Qs8 to try to record into Cakewalk my computer often times blows up. Won't even allow alt-ctrl-del. I have to turn it off & back on. I've had some success with recording certain instruments on various midi channels but it is spuratic. Sometimes it has become necessary to reset the Qs8. I have never been able to get a drum sound to record in cakewalk.

: Any help would be much appreciated.

: Is it true that Alesis's serial driver may not work and I may need to download Rolands or Yamaha's?

: Thanks a bunch !

The problem is probably the baud rate setting
on your com port...go to the alesis driver in
the multimedia of control panel and select the
alesis driver, then set the baud rate to 38.4...
it is probably set at 115 or something now..

hope this helps..
