Hi. I'm so new to Midi it's scary.

I thought I better introduce myself 'cause me thinks
I'm going to have a few questions. So first, my new
    equipment:
    QS6, Roland VS840, Cakewalk Pro 7 running on a
    Toshiba Satelite Notebook Computer.

I haven't received the Cakewalk yet (in a day or two) and
my first question is: Will I need more than the serial
cable from the QS6 to the laptop to start sequencing and
playing it back? If I need midi in and out cables, what
need do I have for the serial cable? I'm sure some of
you will laugh at this question as I have no idea if
I'm asking the right thing... Thanks for any help.
