Are you using the latest Alesis Serial driver - v3.04 or v2.00? I had intermittent problems when using v2.00 in Win98 on a desktop PC, and I think this driver was intended for Win 3.1 or earlier. Who uses Win3.1 anymore? It was about time they updated the serial driver, so ensure you are using the latest - v3.04.
