As far as I understand, the QS (7 and up) CAN in fact communicate at higher speeds up to 115200bps.
The global setting only specifies a special mode in which the comm port is used (1MHz for Macs, 38400bps for most PCs, 31200bps for some nonstandard PCs only). ASDWIN (both 2.00 and 3.00) states it's using the serial interface at 115200bps on my PC.
As you can set the interface speed in ASDWIN, you could probably verify whether it indeed uses 115200bps by switching ASDWIN to 38400bps mode, burning a small project, switching it back to 115200bps, burning again and comparing the times.
