: Alesis has an updated serial driver for win95/98 (v3.04) freely available (since 2/6 this year) at: www.midiworld.com/quadrasynth/qs_swlib.htm. Works great for me (win98).

Thanks for the help. That did the trick. Alesis doesn't seem to have a link to that page on the software section of their web site.
