You are thinking correctly. On my QS8, when I
insert a Qcard, a new bank (e.g. "CardA") appears.
To my knowledge, there is no setting that needs changing.
I just insert the card face up until the "eject" button is
even with the end of the card.
If you can, try the Qcard in another QS and/or try another
Qcard in your synth. There may be a defect in the card
or in the synth.
