I had a similar problem with another serial device and found out that my com ports are saturated with my modem and mouse. I have a serial mouse (old 486 style:trapezoid plug with screws) not a ps2 mouse (newer pentium round plug). I wound up buying a parallel input device. For the qs you may need to buy a com expansion card......Carter
