: I just got my 8.1 but- alas! My B&W mac G3 has no serial ports. Does anyone know the best way to hook it up? Should I get a serial cable to USB adapter that says it can support midi? (I don't think all do.) OR Should I get an expansion card that would give me the older style serial ports? (I think this way would be cheaper) Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I use the Roland Super MPU64. It's a 4 In 4 OUT USB MIDI interface, easy to install and operate, supports
64 MIDI channels. If you plan to add more MIDI devices besides the QS, the SMPU is a good value at $200.
For smaller setup, you can get the same with 2 IN and 2 OUT (SMPU32) for half the price.
Both SMPU-s support the Mac G3.
I wouldn't experiment with the serial-USB adapter, it may work, but who knows...
