: : OK, I didn't think this midi stuff would be so frustrating. I know how to set midi devices in Cakewalk, I can set track properties, and I've loaded the QS ins file. So why, whenIiplay some of my midi files, does the QS8.1 revert to piano on some or all of the channels?? The manuals for both the QS and Cakewalk make pretty good door stops, but that's about it
: : I was hoping for a step-by-step user guide. I plan on also playing live along with the files, so I need to make sure everything is properly set. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
: : Here's what I think...............................................1) you not hearing the sound from you keys within the sequencer or 2) the sequencer is playing back some crap sound that sounds like a Casio?
: : If either case is true then your hearing the GM sound bank inside you SoundBlaster/other card. The sounds inside your keys are not transmitted through MIDI, only digital references.
: : Not sure if that is what you are asking though; if so then your next step is a sound card w/ some audio in's. The sounds within the Alesis can only be recorded through the stereo outs.
: : Might not even be the same thing that you were talking about though...........Where am I?

Actually, no. I have a Sounblaster Live, and the sounds I'm talking about are teh voices from my QS thru the amp. I just am hearing acoustic piano on a track that is cofigured for a violin, another that is confgured for bass, etc. Sometimes, the whole mide file is all in piano.
