: I've mixed up these two questions! So here's the keyboard one.
: When I play something called Microsoft GS wavetable, which was put on my computer in the software bundle that came with my Roland PC-300 there is a massive delay before I hear the note, perhaps half a second. This makes playing anything in time impossible.
: Someone said there might be better drivers. Does anyone know where they are, or whether there might be another solution?
: I think I probably need to buy a better sound card. In the lower price range I am told Soundblaster Live 1024 is the best. Is that right?
: I'm grateful for any suggestions.
: Thanks

What you have is a so-called soft-synth, the sounds are generated by software on you computer.
Soft-synths are ok for playing back MIDI files, but due to the latency, you can't play them in real time
from a keyboard. If you have a "wavetable" soundcard, you can use that with the keyboard (disable the soft synth),
or better yet, you can buy a new or used Roland SoundCanvas sound module. It will play real time, and sound much
better than any soundcard.
