How do I connect my Alesis Qs to my G4?

I just bought an Alesis Qs Synth. I'm a complete novice to the world of digital music.
The guy I bought it from said I could connect immediately to my G4 MAC.

Well - I cant seem to get my computer connected and able to play and record on to
my computer. Do I need a soundcard? or a MIDI interface? I have no idea what that is...

Anybody able to give some advice?
