MIDI in WinXP

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I read all the newbie messages here, connected my QS6.1 to my PC with a gameport to MIDI cable, tried to adjust my Soundblaster Live card, messed with WinXP´s MIDI settings, but it still doesn´t work. Are there any sites or books that are helpfull? Any ideas?
