Dear Oliver,
Very sorry to hear about your father.
I found with my setup (WinXP,SB-Extigy,Roland RD-150) that you actually need something to map the midi-in on the extigy to a midi-synth - either the extigy's internal one which is very good, or an external midi device. I used a free sequencer called "The Jazz Midi Sequencer", although it's a bit basic, and didn't really do quite what I wanted. Also, doing it this way the latency was slightly noticeable (ie a tiny delay between hitting the key on the keyboard to hearing sound).
To sumarise that - you need what I suspect Win3.1 used to call a "Midi Mapper". However, the solution I had does work, and the extigy has some nice sounds.
What would be nice is if you could use the extigy as a synth, without the need of a computer. That would be handy. Anyone know how?
A complete aside here - the exigy is excellent at audio recording, the Signal to Noise ratio is excellent, and I've had professional quality results with it.
