Piano Music By Gabriel Faure (1845-1924) Romance Without Words No. 3 (romance3.mid) Impromptu No 3 (imprmtu3.mid) Nocturne No 4 (nocturn4.mid) Gabriel Faure was born in Pamiers, France. He was a professor of music at the Paris Conservatoire and was the teacher of Maurice Ravel. He is famous for a few pieces including the Pavane, Dolly Suite, Requiem, Berceuse for violin, Impromptu for Harp, Siciliene, and Piano Quartet. He wrote many songs and piano solos, but they are hardly ever played in concert. This is a great pity because his music is so nice. His piano pieces are mainly called Nocturnes, Barcarolles, and Impromptus. His music has a unique sound with unusual modulations and harmonies. One of my teachers in the UK, Albert Ferber, was a champion of Faure and regarded him as a unjustly neglected composer. He recorded all of his piano works and frequently played them in recitals. I also often play Faure's music in my recitals. The three pieces I have sequenced are particularly pleasant. They should be played on a digital sampling piano such as a Yamaha Clavinova or similar with plenty reverberation. I hope you enjoy them. Robert Finley. April 8th 1995. ROBERTFINLEY@delphi.com
