: Hi Sheree!
:
: I'll give this my best shot!
: I own the Yamaha DGX 500 (It's very similar to your DGX 505) the only big difference is that my keyboard has the MIDI In/Out ports rather than the usb port. I have an M-Audio 1x1 interface that has the two MIDI in/out ports to the keyboard and a usb cable to my computer. Basically it works the same as yours. Your usb cable can transmit and receive MIDI information on one cable rather than the two separate MIDI in/out cables that's on my "older" keyboard.
: I have the CAKEWALK Home Studio software. First, click on Insert from the top menu in the Cakewalk Menu and click on "MIDI TRACK". You will see a new track "inserted" in the program. Maximise the track screen (click on the far right icon at the top of the new track box)- You should see a field labeled "patch" - left click on this field which will bring up the entire General Midi Instrument "battery" of "voices" - i.e. Accoustic Piano, Elec. Piano Accordian, etc. Click on Accoustic Piano (if that's the instrument of your choice) and you should see the name of that instrument come up in the patch field. Click on "R" to activate the Record Mode and press Record on the program screen. You should hear your recording when you stop the recording process and press the "play" button.
: If you still have problems e-mail me and I'll give you my home phone number so I can "Talk" you through it. I am 52 years old and have been into MIDI since the old days (1970's) when the only hard drive sequencers were just coming out.
: It's a learning experience for all of us since the technology keeps getting better and more complicated. GOOD LUCK TO YOU! Eddie B.
