Well I know what made it so good. They put aside inside the card itself some special ram just for Sound fonts, which means instant and very quick access to the samples. The issue with the newer ones is that they bipassed useing built in RAM, and made it software based so that the card now uses actual ram... GRRR
As for a new and improved SB AWE 64 Gold.... Only in my dreams...
