Got the M1 actives and set them up at each end of QS8. They are absolutely wonderful! The pianos are MUCH better now. The strings are far better than i could ever have imagined. Headphones do not do the QS8 or QSR justice. Apparently Alesis must have tweaked these voices with studio style equipment. The M1's were worth every penny. I've fallen in love with my synth all over again! PW

: For the past few months I've been using the M1s with a QS7 and the Alesis MasterLink, as well as a variety of gear by Roland, Moog, and E-mu. As studio monitors I'm very happy with them: The sound is nicely crisp and distinct, without any portion of the spectrum being overly hyped, and they're virtually noise-free.
: But I've never seen anything that's an encouragement to using monitors as a live performance system. They don't call 'em near-fields for nothing. M1s have no tonal controls of their own, and you may not get the bottom-end you need to fill a room. Have you considered a smaller, easy to wrangle amp such as something from Roland's KC line? I have a KC-300 that I quite like, and if a stereo spread is needed, there's a jack to connect a second one off the main. You may be able to cobble together a pair of KC-100s, used, for less than what you'd pay for a set of M1s.
