In Reply to: Hooking the QS-8 to Cakewalk, Questions... posted by Burc on March 14, 2001 at 11:34:50:
: I recently acquired a QS-8 and love the samples on it. I am planning on purchasing a new PC to run cakewalk software on it and had some questions.
: 1-If I install cakewalk and connect the QS-8 with the serial cable, will I be able to record and edit MIDI using the QS-8 samples? Is this possible or will the QS-8 be just a generic keyboard that maps to cakewalks general MIDI instruments?
Cakewalk is a midi sequencing/musical notation software program. You can record and edit midi events and musical notation, as well as audio files within Cakewalk. Cakewalk is not capable of, nor does it generate audio (wave samples) itself.
: 2-If I can map the QS-8 samples to the cakewalk instruments, I will normally hear audio from the PC speakers right, so I should be investing in a good set of PC speakers. Will I still require monitors for the QS-8?
Cakewalk can play audio samples from your computers soundcard, but that is not the way you want to set up Cakewalk for the QS8. Cakewalk will send midi data you have recorded and play the QS8 through the headphone and L/R 1/4" audio jacks from your synth.
: 3-Is it possible to create samples with cakewalk and load them onto the QS-8, better pianos and such?
You can record audio files in Cakewalk, but you can not use Cakewalk to load audio files directly to the QS8. You can use your computer to burn audio samples to a PCMCIA card using Soundbridge software, and the QS8 can play those audio samples from a PCMCIA flash card.
: Any help would be greatly appreciated.
: Thanks
