I also am using Cubase (5.0) with my QS8. I've had a few hurdles, but so far so good. As far as recognizing the patch names, I've been able to use the "alesis QS7.txt" patchname template that came with Cubase and it works fine. Just select "Setup Instruments" from the Instrument menu in the Track Inspector (left side of the Arrange window). Set the Output to whatever port you have your QS8 connected to. Set the Patchname Source menu to "Patchname Scripts". Set the Patchname Device" menu to "Alesis Q7", and choose whatever sub-menu applies (Programs, Mixes, or Drums), then click OK. Once these are set, you should be able to see the names of the Programs, Mixes, or Drum sounds in the Patch Name menu in the Inspector.
