I don't think it's clipping. Sounds like a clock issue. Unless you tell them to follow a common clock they will fall out of synch even if they are following the same sample rate.
You have to make sure on the q20 you have selected something like "external" and "digital" as your "clock" source & "input" source, respectively.
On the qs, your Sync source should be set to "internal." That should eliminate the clicks and pops.
I'm not too familiar with the ADAT on these two machines, but this was the solution for a similar problem between an ADAT machine and a digi001.
