To whom this may concern,
I have purchased an Alesis QS 6.1 keyboard and have a couple quetions regarding Midi settings. I am a biginner in MIDI but I do understand the basics. However, I am having some problems understanding the technical terminology used in the QS 6.1's manual about the MIDI configurations.
I just purchased SONAR (Cakewalk) and am trying to figure out what MIDI settings I need to alter on the keyboard to make it talk to my computer (Assume I have all the chords and gear necessary). What I want to do is record all 16 channels of MIDI so that i can create a song. Simple. And so, here are my questions:
1. What settings should I use: NORMAL / OUT 1-16 / CH SOLO? (i have 1 keyboard only)
2. Do i use USER 00-0 in Mix Mode as the setting for recording on these MIDI channels or am I misunderstanding that?
3. I noticed that when I change programs (patches) and change the bank in Cakewalk I recieve the program changes but not the bank. Is there any way for the computer to automatically change the banks so that i don't have to do it manually on the keyboard?
4. What about channels? Do I have to manually change them on the keyboard as well, or is there a MIDI setting that fixes this?
My goal is to do everything from the the SONAR sequencer without having to touch the keyboard except to "play" on it.
Since I am a beginner - please use user-friendly lingo so that I may understand. Thank for any help that you can offer.
