You didn't say what kind of Soundcard you have. Some soundcards have RAM memmory wich you can save samples to. Like these cards:
SoundBlaster AWE(32 and 64), Terratec EWS64, Turtle Beach (Maui, Tropez & Pinnacle), EMU Audio Production Studio, and many more.
You can also use a software sampler like, Mellosoftron, Giga sampler, Signum 1100 (Had some problems with larger samples when I tried it. Looks like an AKAI sampler :-).
A negative thing about those software samplers is that you can only use one audio program in Windows at a time(blame Microsoft for that), so you can't use your audio sequenser or soft synth. I think you can get round this if you use multiple soundcards(or computers :). But then you can't use as many audio tracks as you are used to since the soft sampler slows the computer.
The best thing is to get a real sampler. But a soft sampler is always better than nothing.
