This review is predicated by this: the music I'm doing is electronic thematic music. (Think of Queen's soundtrack from the movie Flash Gordon crossed with dance/industrial. More melody.)
I recently purchased a QS7 and the "Vintage Synth" QCard and could not be any happier!
The card has great sounds that fall into four (generalized) categories: Solo leads, sweeps, pads, rhythm FX.
Solo leads: These are great. It's got all your basics (squares, saws, etc) but there are at least 30 different variations of different classic lead sounds. You can find or tweak just about anything you need from there. I'm lumping the bass sounds into solo leads, since they're very much like leads, but attenuated for lower registers. No problems here either. Very usable sounds.
Sweeps: Veeeerrrrroooooooooww! Aawesome stuff here, very fluid and organic. A little bit of programming might be needed to get the sweeps timed to the music correctly, but they really sound great. Everything from hard resonance sweeps to subtle flanging. Very useful.
Pads: Again the pads are very useful. Classic stuff, that reminds me of stuff like Synergy, and old Electric Light Orchestra. Distinctive stuff that might not mesh well with general MIDI sounds, but works great with the other QS patches. I'm loving them.
Rhythm FX: Pretty good, not always immediately useful, you'll really have to fiddle a bit to find what you want. Certainly has a large variety, but I haven't had the time to really "dig" here.
I'm totally satisfied with the Vintage Synth QCard, It's a great buy.
