This list is all the samples you can use in programs, though these are not all completely independent samples because again there is a lot of reuse. I once closely analyzed the piano sample and in fact it is primarily one big multisample consisting of something like 21 samples. But it appears in many different guises with different start points and pitch transpositions, loop points, etc etc. And then some of these samples get regrouped to appear as a velo-switched sample. It's pretty clever actually. As to how many samples there really are, it's quite hard to actually tell.
