: go to page six of the global edit mode and select KBD MODE to out 01. This is the equivalent of local off for the QS8 and probably for yours also.

I prefer setting KBD to SOLO and using the PAGE buttons to scroll through the midi channels. Setting the KBD to out 01 simply sends the midi information out midi channel 1 and turns off the internal sounds (you must loop them back through your sequencer in order to hear what you are playing).
