tom..
it was a good thought, but the midiman 's.a.m.' does optical adat to rca spdif only. so there is a physical difference. the 'sam' looks like a cool thing to get 8tracks of adat mixed down onto an spdif stereo pair. the minidiscs i've played with seem to have optical (toslink - i'm guessing it is spdif) and mic inputs. there is another midiman product that converts spdif to optical i think...but that's starting to get messy. ....andy
: : okay, so reading through some of the questions about ADAT/TOSLINK etc. has started me thinking (dangerous i know). since the fiber cable (i got one) works with an adat (don't got one) and fits into a minidisk (could get one), is the ADAT protocol such that you would get useless digitial poop if you plugged it into a minidisk recorder. any brave soul tried this? ...andy
: Andy,
: MidiMan makes a little ADAT/SPDIF converter/mixer called (SAM) for about $250.00.
: This will let you connect your QS to a minidisk
: hope this helps,
