Actually I didn't mention this; I said that the QS8 sample is a multisample. More specifically, there is a new stereo sample every 2 to 6 semitones. They supply this sample with various starting points that cut off different degrees of the hammer attack. You can make a mellower piano by using the samples with less hammer sound.
The also supply one "velocity switched" sample that plays the big multisample with the different attack start for different velocities, but this isn't exactly the same thing as a "real" velo-switched sample (IMO) because you don't get a change in sustaining timbre that you get with a real piano or would get if they velo switched between samples taken from different strikes. This to me would be the biggest advantage of a larger sample.
