I talked with EDIROL when I ordered my EV-5.
They had no other unit that worked like the ev-5 at that time. Your right about the Yamaha controllers, they're built like an army tank, but all the ones I tried were not matching the ohms.
I did notice in a recent publication that "Music Industries" lists a voume pedal for Alesis MPM VP-26/E. I haven't seen this one, but might be worth a look for $39.95 . Hope this helps.
