Joystick/midi port problems on sound cards

I have a Tutle Beach "Malibu" 64 voice sound card in my IBM compatible PC. I have experienced much frustration trying to input midi data into Cakewalk (and other music software programs such as Digital Orchestrator) with this sound card.
Most of the symptoms range from midi notes not being recorded correctly, or the midi data was completely missing, out of sync, etc. Fortunately I have the Alesis serial driver and this works great for inputing midi data into Cakewalk.
The serial driver bypasses the sound cards joystick/midi port and works on COM2 instead. I suspect there are other sound cards out there that have similar problems with the joystick/midi port - and not just the Turtle Beach sound card.
I wanted to mention this in case there are any others having problems recording midi data using their sound cards joystick/midi port.
As far as I know, the Soundblaster's joystick/midi port works fine, but there may be problems with using the joystick/midi port on soundcards from other manufacturers.
