Jim-

Based on your answers to my questions, I'm beginning to lean toward Chris's assessment, and that the message that's getting sent out early on by Cubase might be one that resets all the track pans to the center. These kinds of messages don't always show up in event lists. Can you hear via your speakers or headphones whether the stereo imaging is in fact going away with a piano patch like Pure Stereo or True Stereo? If it is, then Chris has the bead on it.

I don't work with Cubase so I have no idea if it does this. If this turns out to be your problem, you may want to repost your message with the word Cubase in the title to pull in some users who may have had the same problem and figured out the solution.

Chris's solution with the sysex messages is a good one if this is the problem since it allows you to send very specific commands to control things at the level of the programs -- and, you get to learn something about Sysex which can't hurt.

One other work-around you might try is to send your patch change message a second time since you indicated that toggling out of mix mode and back into while the sequecne is running fixes the problem sound. That is, on the tracks that have the problem stereo patches, re-enter the patch change again toward the end of that first blank measure before the notes start. Since this isn't exactly the same as the toggling you do it may or may not work, depending on how Cubase reads back to such control change messages.

: Thank you all for the suggestions so far but I still have the problem. Let me clarify just a bit:
: 1. Actually the correct term for the problem I am having I believe is phasing
: 2. This is only happening in Mix Mode
: 3. The problem occurs only when sequencing
: 4 The problems begins right at the beginning of the sequence (as soon as the part starts)
: 5. I canget rid of the phasing problem while the sequence is running by simply going to program mode and then back to mix mode
: 6 I believe the problem occurs only on stereo patches (ie. a stereo piano) Although I have not tried every patch in the QS8, I believe it is only stereo patches that are affected

: In responce to those who have already offered help,
: 1 Thank you. However I have no idea how to enter sysex messages like that. And if I did, is that really the simplest way to solve this problem?
: 2.It was suggested that I disable echo in the midi setup page of Cubase. I have tried that but when I uncheck the 'Active', I get nothing. Also my program (3.7r2)has no 'auto or manual setting for echo.

: I sure appreciate your help and all the help thats already been given

: Thanks again
: Jim
