Mitchell;
I have an iMac G3 with USB ports, using Emagic's Logic Gold Sequencer program, and a Midiman USB interface with Opcode's OMS driver. I would probably rather be using Emagic's interface, but chose the Midiman too soon. (I'll probably get Logic's in the near future).
I am using the Alesis provided software, Sound Bridge, for Flash card burning, and OMS SysEx Sender, for loading banks onto Sram cards (on account of the Alesis provided Freeloader program crashes everybody's macs.)
Try to decide which sequencer program you like (which is really hard to do without having your keyboard connected to your computer in the first place) and go with what suits that program best.
Different sequencer programs use different software drivers to communicate twixt your equipment. Some use Free Midi, some OMS, etc., (Sound Bridge does not support FreeMidi).
It's a lot of decisions to make. Maybe get an inexpensive USB interface first, figuring on upgrading at a later date.
By the way, Alesis has included in the software package that shipped with your synth, Emagic's MicroLogic AV, which is an excelent starter/intro sequencer program. Comes with a tutorial and songs to play with. Logic was written for Mac by Der Chermans, and, like everything else they make, is a top notch program.
I hope you can survive the transition. You just gotta grab aholt of something and hang on. Whew!

Regards,
Kirby
