: My question is: Can these "Expando" banks be loaded into the INTERNAL
: memory of the QS8, the "user" bank? If so, how?

Since you have one User Bank, you can load only one of those banks at a time. Use Freeloader, the sysex utility also included on the CD Rom, (or you can download it from this site)

: Also, are these "QCard" banks the exact same sounds that you would get if you bought the
    :Q-Card for $229? What gives?

It would be too good to be true, so here's the
catch : all the samples are located on the QCards, so even if you download the sysex banks, they will not make any sounds without the
    cards.

: If all of this is possible, why is it not mentioned ONCE in the manual?
: I am looking at Chapter 9 right now and see NOTHING about
: transfering data to or from a source other than a memory card.
: What am I missing here?

I just looked into the manual, it's there, in Chapter 9, under "Saving Programs via MIDI Sysex".
