I just bought a QS8 and and attempting to get it to communicate with Cakewalk 6.0.

I'm using the soundcard that came standard with the Compaq laptop. I downloaded the serial driver from alesis.

Problem being: When I play the Qs8 to try to record into Cakewalk my computer often times blows up. Won't even allow alt-ctrl-del. I have to turn it off & back on. I've had some success with recording certain instruments on various midi channels but it is spuratic. Sometimes it has become necessary to reset the Qs8. I have never been able to get a drum sound to record in cakewalk.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Is it true that Alesis's serial driver may not work and I may need to download Rolands or Yamaha's?

Thanks a bunch !
