I own an Alesis QS8 and I'm having trouble getting the computer to "talk" to the synth. I am using a Serial port connection and I've installed the serial driver in the software/asdwin folder on the Alesis software CD-rom. All of my global settings on the QS8 are set up for MIDI operation. My computer is an IBM Aptiva 450 Mhz/PIII 96 MB RAM. In Windows 98 control panel.... in Multimedia/Devices/Multimedia Drivers/Alesis Serial MIDI driver out/Properties/Serial Port connection..... I only get two choices.... "com1" and disabled. I've tried plugging the synth into both serial ports on my PC and it will not connect to the QS8. Why can't I get "com2" on the serial port connection? I looked in the control panel and all of my com ports are working properly and NOT conflicting with anything else. Last year.... I was able to get the QS8 to successfully connect to another older 200Mhz PC. I don't understand why I'm having so much trouble with this particular PC. If anyone has advice or solutions to my problem... please help me out. If you need more information.... just ask and I will be happy to provide you with it.
