This is something I posted to another group. It may help you out.
I experienced a similar problem and here's what I did to fix it. First, I had recorded a drum part into cakewalk and I then was sending the MIDI notes back out to the SR-16 so it would act as a sound module. I was getting only the standard set of drums. Here's what I did to fix it. I didn't use the instrument definition file that I found on the internet. I used General Midi drums as my port. The rest depends on whether you've defined any drum sets on your SR-16. If you haven't and you want to use the preset drum sets, you will need to use values 51-100 as your patch settings in Cakewalk. One thing to keep in mind, Cakewalk will not be able to control the preset drum patterns on the SR-16 (Techno 1, for example), only the drum set that these preset patterns use. So, if you like the drum set used in the Techno 1 pattern, you will use patch 70 in Cakewalk. Again, just use General MIDI drums in Cakewalk, the instrument definition file isn't necessary.
