Forget to mention that there is a new driver on Microsoft WindowsUpdate site with following info:

Creative multimedia software update released on June 26 2002.

I loaded this driver and it did fix the problem but I could no longer use the Creative AudioHQ utilities to load Soundfonts so this didn't really help, either. I reloaded the Live Drive Pack (25mb) and Patch (6mb) to get back to where I was.
