Recently I replaced the QS7 LCD with a 44780 compatible CLCD (not sure if it is exactly the same case as QS8), and did connect it in a wrong way at first (reversed each pair). Hopefully, everything went fine after I switched it back in correct position (nothing fired).
The cable layout is like this (facing the cable out from the board), if i remember correctly.
[ 14 12 10 8 6 4 2 ] red lines here
[ 13 11 9 7 5 3 1 ] red lines here
I followed the instruction in this forum and connected this plug to new LCD module with 16 pin, like this.
[ 13 11 9 7 5 3 (2+15) ] red lines here
[ 14 12 10 8 6 4 (1+16) ] red lines here
Hope this help.
: : : I think I fried the LCD board on my QS8 by plugging
: : : in the cable the wrong way. The display lights up,
: : : but the synth doesn't play. I've ordered another board,
: : : but want to make sure I don't fry it too. Is it pin 1 (red edge of flat cable) toward the top of the main board? Any schematics, or advice?
: : The schematics can be downloaded from our Software Page. Click on SOFTWARE in the left column.
: : While you're there, get the Service Manual as well, you may find it useful.
: thanks, Les!
: though schematics are for QS8.1, not QS8. The former
: has a 16 pin flat cable to the LCD, and is supplied with -5 volts, I don't find any -5 volts going to
: the QS8 LCD. Either it isn't there, or I burnt a
: trace or something. The QS8 flat cable has 14 pins.
: Just to clarify, the QS8 runs fine
: as long as the LCD card isn't plugged in.
: Service manual is a help, thanks again!
